Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a hands-on seminar?
- You are welcome to bring your own laptop, but we will be concentrating on lectures and demonstrations, allowing us to cover more materials.
Should I bring my digital camera?
- Yes, by all means! All participants are encouraged to bring their cameras to shoot in the studio and location.
What level workshop is this - beginner, intermediate, or advanced?
- Solid intermediate. We address the essentials of digital imaging and delve into more advanced topics such as masking and creative image enhancements. For example, we cover the fundamentals of a histogram, but also how it relates to the custom white balance in your camera. Jack has taught these lessons to both beginners and advanced photographers and both groups have told him they find it very enlightening. Understanding digital and really getting it are two different things. We want you to GET IT.
- Our goal is that you leave the workshop understanding new things about pixels and develop new ways of working that are more efficient, intuitive, and creative.
I've never photographed in a studio - what will I learn?
- We address types of studio lighting, strategies for lighting, and most importantly how to not let the light overwhelm the subject. You may never want to work with strobes, soft-boxes, or gobos, but there are residual lessons learned from studio lighting including, 'how to look for light on location and 'how to work with models and with real people' so that you can concentrate on taking the best picture no matter where you are.
How about customized workshops?
- We can customize workshops for your staff or photography groups. Jack and Katrin have extensive experience working with ASMP, PPA, PMA, and WPPI. Please contact us to discuss specific subject matter, location, and costs.
